Melbourne Metro Tunnel

The $13 Billion Metro Tunnel is the largest investment in Melbourne’s CBD rail capacity since the City Loop was completed 40 years ago. This mega transport infrastructure project will comprise of Twin 9km train tunnels connecting the east and west of Melbourne and 5 new stations at Arden, Parkville, State Library, Town Hall and Anzac underground. The project will also include pedestrian links to Flinders Street and Melbourne Central stations for easy interchange with the City Loop, Melbourne’s first tram/train interchange at Anzac Station on St Kilda Road. This transformative project will ease congestion, improve service reliability, and future-proof Melbourne’s transport network.

The Scope

APS commenced working on the CYP Metro Tunnel Project during the early works in March 2018, tasked with providing over a hundreds highly skilled personnel providing rigging and scaffolding support. Our teams have been during early works programme assisted with construction of the A’Beckett Street and Franklin Street Shafts, erecting cavern linings and general construction under the CYP Design and Construct programme.

During the later stages of the project and due to the high-quality personnel within

the team APS was privileged to work on Abeckett, Franklin East and Franklin West, Federal square, Domain with a sizable scope at the Latrobe street station.

Working 24 hours a day, APS riggers, crane operators, scaffolders and rope access personnel have been involved with all aspects of the project, both above ground and 60m below the main streets of Melbourne delivering comprehensive solutions across multiple aspects of the Metro Tunnel Project.
