APS, alongside our engineering and scaffolding teams, is honoured to play a key role in the university’s ongoing campus developments, supporting the construction and refurbishment efforts outlined in the Monash campus master plan.

APS Supports Monash University with Refurbishment of Building M
The Monash University Project:

APS was engaged to provide a hanging scaffold for the refurbishment of the M building on the Clayton campus. The scaffold, spanning from level 6 to level 8, had two main purposes: to protect the public during the demolition of existing brick walls on the balconies and to provide a safe working deck for installing new glass window facades.
Our in-house engineer, Eamonn Coughlan, led the engineering work for this project, with plans submitted for review and sign-off by Baigents Engineering before the work commenced. Despite the tight timeframe, the team at Baigents did an exceptional job, ensuring everything was in place before the start date. APS was awarded the contract just days before the Christmas break, making the project even more time-sensitive.
A Challenging Timeline and Exceptional Effort:

With the original installation timeframe reduced from 20 days to just 12, APS was faced with a major challenge. Our team rose to the occasion, completing the 35-tonne scaffold spanning 100 meters and standing 7 meters high in an incredibly tight timeframe. The scaffold was installed using rope access scaffolders and a second scaffold crew, all while ensuring minimal disruption to the surrounding work environment.
A team of 8 worked efficiently to crane materials and spread them across the limited space, taking into account the roof’s load capacity. At the same time, a team of 4 rope access scaffolders began building the scaffold. Progress was made swiftly, with another 5 rope access scaffolders continuing to base out the scaffold while a second scaffold team worked from the roofline down.
This outstanding effort by all involved allowed the project to stay on schedule, ensuring the scaffold was completed before the set deadline.
Looking Ahead:

APS’s scaffolding and rope access teams continue to provide high-quality design, engineering, material supply, and scaffold installation services across multiple Monash University campuses throughout 2025. Most recently, our rope access team successfully completed the installation of a cantilever scaffold, demonstrating our commitment to excellence in every aspect of our work.
We are excited to continue supporting Monash University’s ongoing developments and look forward to further collaborations in the future.
