Building Better Healthcare: Cogent Scaffolding’s Track Record in Hospitals & Health

Delivering scaffolding on hospitals and health projects is a different game to standard commercial work. These are government-backed builds with rigorous procurement gateways, detailed pre-tender requirements, social and training targets, and live clinical environments where operations cannot be interrupted. They’re not easy projects to win, and they’re certainly not easy projects to deliver well.

Over the past two decades, Cogent Scaffolding has built a substantial portfolio across major health precincts in Queensland and New South Wales, supporting new hospitals, carparks, redevelopments and specialist health and research facilities. From the Princess Alexandra Hospital Redevelopment and Tweed Valley Hospital to St Andrews War Memorial, Mater Hospital and UQ Health Sciences retrofit, plus the new Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology laboratory facility, Cogent has consistently delivered safe, engineered access on some of the most complex health infrastructure projects in the country.

Why hospitals and health work are different

Hospitals and health projects are typically procured by state governments or health infrastructure agencies and delivered by Tier 1 and major Tier 2 contractors. Winning this work means demonstrating:

  • Proven performance on similar government health projects
  • The ability to work in and around live clinical environments with strict controls on noise, dust, vibration and public access
  • Capacity to meet apprentice and trainee targets and broader social procurement goals
  • Robust safety, quality and environmental systems

Cogent's Hospital & Health Portfolio

On top of the pre-qualification, the work itself is technically demanding. At Princess Alexandra Hospital (PA), Cogent’s scaffolding supports a new multi-storey Clinical Services Building being constructed directly above the live Emergency Department, which sees more than 68,000 patients a year.

At UQ Health Sciences and St Andrews War Memorial Hospital, demolition and

redevelopment works had to proceed while hospital operations continued 24/7, with scaffolding and specialist containment systems designed to minimise disruption, manage dust and maintain public safety.

This is where Cogent’s experience, planning and in-house engineering capability become critical.

  • Princess Alexandra Hospital Redevelopment, Brisbane
  • PA Hospital Carpark, Brisbane
  • The Prince Charles Hospital Carpark, Chermside
  • Tweed Valley Hospital, NSW
  • St Andrews War Memorial Hospital, Spring Hill
  • Mater Hospital – Demolition for Brisbane’s Children’s Hospital
  • UQ Health Sciences, RBWH Herston
  • RDX Lumina – Health, Research & Innovation on the Gold Coast
  • Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology (South Brisbane)

What this portfolio says about Cogent’s capability

Hospitals and health projects are some of the most demanding environments in commercial scaffolding. Cogent’s proven record across these sites shows not only technical strength and safe delivery, but also a deep understanding of the

procurement, compliance and workforce expectations that come with modern government health infrastructure. Taken together, these projects show a consistent pattern:

Depth of experience in government health work
Capability in live, high-compliance environments
Complex access solutions at scale
